So Christmas is really not my thing. I’ve been hit hard year after year by one tragedy or another around the holidays, so I tend to be a bit of a Scrooge about it. In an effort to combat my seasonal crumudgeon-ness, I’ve signed up for a couple holiday-related blog events this year, the first of which is the Ho-Ho-Ho Read-A-Thon. HHHRAT is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Jennifer @ The Book Shelfery, and is all about reading holiday/winter themed books and participating in holiday-themed challenges! It runs from today until November 17, so be sure to check their blogs to find out how to join in on the fun! Here are my goals for the Thon:
I don’t want to totally saturate my life with sleigh bells, so I’ve decided to pepper my usual TBR pile with only 2 holiday books this time around, but I’m super excited about both of them!
Dash & Lilly’s Book of Dares by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn
Synopsis (from Goodreads):
“I’ve left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”
So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the bestselling authors of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?
Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.
A Darcy Christmas by Sharan Lathan, Amanda Grange, and Carolyn Eberhart
Synopsis (from Goodreads):
From Amanda Grange, the bestselling author of Mr. Darcy’s Diary and Mr. Darcy, Vampyre, Christmas finds the Darcy’s celebrating the holiday with preparations for a ball, but the festivities are interrupted by the arrival of a very special gift… Ever sensual and romantic, Sharon Lathan highlights everything that’s best and most precious in the celebrations of the holiday season. After a quarter of a century together, Darcy and Elizabeth reminisce… Jane Austen meets Charles Dickens! Carol Eberhart’s Mr. Darcy’s Christmas Carol finds Darcy encountering ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future, who show him his life if pride keeps him from his one true love.
My goal regarding challenges is quite simple. I want to participate in as many challenges as I possibly can (maybe even all of them!)
Here are the challenges for this year’s Read-A-Thon:
- Kristin @ Addicted to Happily Ever After “Draw It Out”
- Nelle @ Nelle’s Nightstand “Book Cover Bingo”
- Christy @ Love of Books “Puzzle Game”
- Megan @ Reading Away the Days “Favourite Holiday/Christmas Movie you loved as a child”
- Trish @ Between My Lines “Name That Book”
- Elizabeth @ Thoughts from an Evil Overlord “Recipe Challenge”
Sign-Ups are still open, so “Dash” on over to one of the fabulous host sites and join in the fun!
