Guest of the Month: Maggie from The Novel Orange!

Hey everybody!  So, this month I’ve been participating in a really cool project spearheaded by the wonderful Emily at Emily Reads Everything called the Guest of the Month Club!

Essentially, GOMC partners up two bloggers to write a guest post for each other’s site about a given topic.  This month’s topic was “Beyond the Blog” and my partner was Maggie at The Novel Orange.  It was so awesome participating in this project and getting to know Maggie this month.  I hope you enjoy getting to know her as much as I did!  Without further ado, here is Maggie, beyond the blog:

5 Reasons I Loved Origin (Lux #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Katy is, theoretically, living every xenophile’s dream… She’s managed to get inside the mysterious Area 51.  But, if those people knew what really went on there, they’d run for the hills and keep on running.  Katy’s not there because she wants to be.  She got trapped by Daedalus, an offshoot of the DOD and is being tested, experimented on and…. violated–all for the sake of the “greater good”.  She needs to escape, but how? Nobody knows where she is, the place makes Fort Knox look like it’s made out of Lego bricks, and it’s covered in an onyx and diamond combination that weakens her beyond repair.

Katy’s been captured by Daedalus and that S.O.B. Blake is the reason behind it.  Daemon can’t just let her stay there, so, much to his family’s dismay, he does the only thing he can… he goes after her.  When he willingly crosses enemy territory and sees what’s behind the walls of the DOD’s brain-child, he can’t believe what he finds.  The only thing he can believe is that he needs to get himself and Katy out of there as soon as humanly (or super-humanly) possible. The Giving Way to Happiness Blitz: How I Give

In celebration of Thanksgiving weekend and the beginning of the holiday season, I’m happy to showcase a book all about giving and share with you guys my favorite (bookish) way to give back!
We often focus on how our gifts can help those in need. But the act of giving actually improves our own lives as well. In The Giving Way to Happiness, Jenny Santi overturns conventional thinking about what it takes to be happy by revealing how giving to others—whether in the form of money, expertise, time, or love—has helped people from all walks of life find purpose and joy. Drawing on the wisdom of great thinkers past and present, as well as cutting-edge scientific research, Santi makes an eloquent and passionate case that oftentimes the answers to the problems that haunt us, and the key to the happiness that eludes us, lie in helping those around us.

Review: Opal (Lux #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

If you haven’t read the first two books, STOP NOW unless you like knowing what’s going to happen before you read:-)

Now that that’s out of the way, Opal picks up right where Onyx left off.  As we know, Dawson has been freed from the DOD and is on a mission, regardless of harm to life and limb, to find and rescue Beth, the love of his life.  In order to convince him to stop acting irrationally, Katy promises Dawson that she and Daemon will help him rescue Beth.

Just when Katy has given up hope on where to start in the Beth hunt, in walks Blake.  Yeah… that Blake; douche-bag of the century and murderer extraordinaire.  Blake comes with a heavy load of blackmail thinly disguised as a proposition.  His deal?  He will help Dawson and clan rescue Beth if, in turn, they help him rescue Chris: his childhood friend who healed him and in doing so, turned him into the mutated half-human he has become.
